Geophagus Alto Sinu (Gold Dust Eartheater)

This isn’t your everyday eartheater — this is the Alto Sinu, straight from the tanks of Rare and Difficult to breed Anthony Fernando, this gold‑flecked Colombian stunner disappears as fast as it lands. Smooth glide, nonstop sand‑sifting, blue‑lit cheeks, and that signature “alive” movement that makes your whole aquascape feel premium.

We only release these in micro‑batches, hand‑selected and fully quarantined. When they’re gone, they’re gone — no guarantees on the next restock.

  • Gold Dust Glow: Fine golden shimmer + blue facial iridescence

  • Movement for Days: True sand‑sifter with constant, natural motion

  • Tank Size

    • 75 gallons minimum for a small group

    • Larger tanks preferred for natural behavior and stable hierarchy

    Water Parameters

    • Temperature: 76–82°F

    • pH: 6.0–7.2 (slightly acidic ideal)

    • Hardness: Soft to moderate

    • Flow: Gentle to moderate, well‑oxygenated

    • Maintenance: Clean water is essential — they do not tolerate poor conditions

    Substrate

    • Fine sand is mandatory These fish feed by taking sand into their mouths, sifting it for food, and expelling it through their gills. Gravel can damage their gill structures and prevent natural behavior.

    Diet

    • High‑quality sinking pellets

    • Frozen foods (bloodworms, brine shrimp, mysis)

    • Occasional live foods

    • Vegetable matter or spirulina‑based foods for balance

They are enthusiastic eaters and benefit from a varied diet.

    Temperament & Tankmates

    • Peaceful, social, and active

    • Best kept in groups of 4–6 to reduce dominance issues

    • Ideal tankmates include:

      • Larger tetras

      • Peaceful cichlids

      • Corydoras

      • Plecos

      • Other Geophagus species (with space)

    Avoid aggressive cichlids or fin‑nippers.

    Aquascape

    • Sandy substrate

    • Driftwood, roots, and smooth stones

    • Open swimming lanes

    • Leaf litter optional for a natural look

    • Plants can work, but choose hardy species — they may rearrange the substrate

    Behavior

    • Constant sand‑sifting

    • Peaceful schooling behavior

    • Color intensifies with maturity and good water quality

    • Will establish a loose hierarchy but rarely show aggression

    Breeding

    • Substrate spawners

    • Form pairs within a group

    • Parental care is strong, but fry survival is higher in dedicated breeding setups
