Limia nigrofasciata (1m-1f)

Limia nigrofasciata grows up to about 5–6 cm (2–2.4 inches) in length. Both males and females display beautiful translucent, glittery bodies marked with dark vertical bars. Males develop an enlarged dorsal fin with purple flecks and a striking hump on their backs that intensifies with age. Their coloration includes a golden base with yellow highlights on the throat and fins. Females tend to be larger but less colorful than males and lack the hump 

Limia nigrofasciata is classified as Critically Endangered due to its very limited distribution restricted to Lake Miragoâne. The lake faces severe threats from deforestation, pollution, and climate change. No targeted conservation measures currently exist, and lax enforcement of forestry and environmental laws in Haiti exacerbates its vulnerability. Without habitat protection and ex-situ conservation efforts, the species risks extinction.
